Port Blair (Sri Vijaya Puram) is the entry point to Andaman for almost every traveller, and most of the city’s sightseeing can be done in a private cab over one to two days. Cellular Jail, Corbyn’s Cove, Chatham Saw Mill, the museums, Chidiya Tapu and Wandoor are all within a 30 km radius of Veer Savarkar airport.
Cabs in Port Blair are easier to find than on the smaller islands, but rates jump on Light and Sound Show evenings and during ferry departure hours. Important Points to Note For Your Port Blair Cab
- The cab is private and is not shared with anyone else.
- Cab is used on a point to point basis. Pickup and drop only at the listed stops.
- You can stop the cab in between for a quick photo or tea, but try not to keep the driver waiting longer than 5 to 10 minutes.
- Cellular Jail entry tickets and museum tickets are included in our city tour package and handed over by our representative at the entrance.
- A private guide inside the Jail or museums is not included. The driver will share basic information at every stop.

Places We Cover on a Port Blair Cab Tour
Cellular Jail is the first stop on every Port Blair city tour. Two of the seven wings still stand, along with the gallows and the courtyard where Veer Savarkar was imprisoned. We hand you the entry ticket near the gate so there is no queue wait. Plan around 1.5 hours inside.
Samudrika Marine Museum is run by the Indian Navy and covers the corals, shells and marine life of the Andaman waters. Useful before you head to Havelock or Neil because you can identify what you will see while snorkelling.
Anthropological Museum is a smaller museum that documents the six native tribes of Andaman and Nicobar including the Jarawa, Sentinelese, Onge and Shompen. Photography is restricted inside.
Chatham Saw Mill is Asia’s oldest functioning saw mill, set up by the British in 1883. Connected to the main town by Chatham bridge, it sits on a small island and was bombed during World War 2. The Forest Museum on the same campus is worth 30 minutes.
Corbyn’s Cove Beach is the closest beach to the city, about 7 km from the airport. Coconut palms along the shore and a few water sports operators for jet ski and banana boat. Best visited in the evening for tea and pakodas at the beach shacks.
Marina Park is a short marine drive that runs along the coast from the city centre to Corbyn’s Cove. Worth the slow drive at sunset.
Chidiya Tapu is 25 km south of the city, also called the Bird Island for its forest birds and the famous sunset point. The Munda Pahad trek (around 45 minutes from the beach) gives you a view of the Bay of Bengal from 300 ft above sea level. The biological park sits on the way.
Wandoor Beach is 30 km from the city and is the entry point to Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park. Boats from Wandoor jetty run to Jolly Buoy and Red Skin islands for snorkelling, usually on a roster system (one of the two islands open at a time).
